Barbecue Flavored Tempeh
Ingredients
  • 1 8-oz package tempeh, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • ½ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 Tbs maple syrup
  • 1 tsp blackstrap molasses
  • 2 Tbs tamari (can sub soy sauce)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp dried tarragon (optional)
  • 2 tsp arrowroot starch (or cornstarch)
Instructions
  1. Whisk ingredients, balsamic vinegar through tarragon, together in a bowl. Do NOT add arrowroot powder/cornstarch yet!
  2. Submerge tempeh cubes, cover, and marinate for 2-24 hours.
  3. When ready, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  4. Pour sauce and cubes into an 8x8 glass dish and bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven, stir cubes around, and continue baking for another 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and transfer just the cubes to plates or the serving dish.
  7. Pour the sauce into a small saucepan, add arrowroot powder (or cornstarch) and whisk until thick.
  8. Pour over cubes and serve. This preparation is a delicious way to top a salad,as well!
