My friend Joel pointed me toward this tasty chocolate mousse recipe with its unconventional secret ingredient. I made it as a treat for myself for my birthday this week. It is extremely rich and chocolatey, so just a small serving satisfies! If you’re in a pinch for avocados, you can sub half a banana for one of the avocados, but it will add a slight banana taste to the mousse.
This recipe is from Dr. Axe.
1/2 cup pitted dates, soaked
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 – 1.5 cups mashed avocado (about 2-3 avocados)
3/4 cup cocoa powder
1/2 cup water
Blend or process drained dates, maple syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add mashed avocado and cocoa powder and process, scraping down the sides periodically. Add the water and process until smooth. Serve chilled. Store in a refrigerator for 3 days or in a freezer for two weeks.
