We went on a road trip as a family recently and stopped along the way to eat at a fast food place. We picked my former “favorite” fast food restaurant–Wendy’s. Not that we ever ate much fast food (maybe once every couple months), but this was my first time eating it since changing our diet about three months ago. What we eat at home now is low in sodium, sugars, and fat; certainly not true of most fast food. About 20 minutes after eating our meals, my husband and I both felt really sick. My stomach felt awful, I felt light-headed and nauseous, and I was seriously considering asking my husband to pull over. He admitted to feeling similar and said he regretted stopping there and eating that food.
We’ve always felt guilty about eating fast food in the past, which is why we did it so infrequently. This was the first time, however, that we experienced such strong physical reactions.
Lesson learned. Fast food is not for us, and really, shouldn’t be for anyone. Unless, of course, you’re talking about this kind of fast food.
