Yes–it’s ready at last! My homemade chocolate recipe that is completely free of dairy, soy, nuts, honey, gluten, GMOs, seaweed, aardvarks, aliens….well, you get the picture. This stuff is rich, dark chocolate goodness that tastes AMAZING without any of the major allergens and it packs a superfood punch!
My chocolate gains its sweetness from pure maple syrup and lucuma...

I’ll be making an effort to post more gluten-free recipes. I’m dealing with some thyroid issues and one of the recommendations has been to cut dietary gluten. No worries, though! As I’ve learned since cutting dairy, eggs, and red meat–it’s not about what you can’t eat, it’s about what you can eat. And in my case, there is absolutely no sense of...

When my husband first mentioned he had a hankering for dirt cake, I was a little intimidated by the challenge of the normally dairy-heavy dessert. I scratched my head and wondered, how in the world would I be able to recreate a recipe that normally contains butter, cream cheese, and Cool Whip? And, yes, I’m aware there are “vegan” versions of all of those, but I refuse...

You may wonder why I’m venturing into the “gluten-free” baking realm. I have not been diagnosed with a gluten intolerance or sensitivity, nor has anyone in my family. However, after reading a portion of Wheat Belly, see a synopsis here, I decided to try going gluten-free for a couple weeks to see if I would see or feel any differences. I’m only a couple days...

Happy 30th Birthday to my amazing husband! For his last birthday, I made him dairy-free, wheat-free Pineapple Coconut Cake, and he really enjoyed that, so I wanted this year’s dessert to be a hit as well. He’s not a huge sweets lover, nor a big fan of chocolate, so no brownies (I know, it’s practically sacrilegious), but I found this recipe, from Vegan Yack Attack,...

I would describe this dessert as a deconstructed pumpkin pie; it has all the elements–crust, pumpkin pie filling, and “cream.” It was tasty, but I’m not a huge pumpkin fan, so the small size of this serving (I used a Turkish tea glass) was just right. Thank you to my friend, Chris, for the crystal serving tray that I used to stage this photo–it was a perfect Christmas...

The first time I tried this recipe, it was a little too coconut for me. This next time, I tweaked the recipe a bit, and I think this is much tastier. Citrus, but still a sweet, creamy “ice cream” vibe.
Serve this ice cream soft because frozen orange is not as flavorful as the soft fruit.
Adapted from this recipe at Gluten-Free Goddess.

Okay, so technically it’s not a “perfectly healthy” pie because I cheated and used a store-brought crust, but depending on your dietary restrictions, you could make your own crust and make it vegan, whole foods, and even gluten-free if desired! When my husband said he wanted a pecan pie for Thanksgiving (the most unhealthy pie there is!) I was determined to find a healthy recipe. ...

My husband requested pecan pie this Thanksgiving and I tried my hand at two different recipes, this one from Chocolate-Covered Katie, as well as a truly healthy one from Keep it Clean. This recipe was probably my favorite because I love graham cracker crusts and chocolate. My husband wanted a more traditional pecan pie flavor, so he prefers the other. I’m not crazy about the fact this recipe...

Eliminating dairy means eliminating a whole host of health problems and health risks, but it doesn’t mean you have to give up sweet treats like ice cream. One of the first vegan desserts I tried was this ice cream made from frozen bananas.
Whereas that ice cream is guilt-free, this one is decidedly naughtier. I’m straying from my healthy eating a bit with this recipe, which is high in fat...

I keep trying different vegan chocolate chip cookies because I loooove chocolate chip cookies and it’s fun seeing how a completely different set of ingredients can create similar cookies. I love these chocolate chip cookies and Sarah’s chocolate chip cookies, but these cookies are the perfect mix of tasty, easy-to-make, and healthy. Provided you use gluten-free oats, they...

I became enamored with the idea of eating chia seeds from running books like Born to Run, Finding Ultra, and Eat and Run. As a child of the 1980s, I can still hear the strains of the “Chu, chu, chu, CHIA!” Chia Pet commercials in my head, but I wanted to explore the health benefits of this teeny-tiny seed.
Nuts.com offers this list of 7 Good Reasons to Eat Chia Seeds:
